Mikroscan to Reveal New 20-Slide Autoloader at USCAP

First medium-capacity autoloader expands the capabilities of the SL5 and L5 systems

February 27, 2020 (Carlsbad, CA) – Mikroscan Technologies, innovators and manufacturers of live robotic microscopy and whole-slide imaging (WSI) systems, announces the addition of a 20-slide autoloader option to both its SL5 Dual-Mode Real-Time Telemicroscopy and Digital Pathology system and L5 Real-Time Telemicroscopy system.

The 20-slide autoloader, available for demo at USCAP 2020, is the latest innovation from Mikroscan, a company dedicated to creating low-cost, flexible systems that improve efficiency and convenience for the pathologist. In keeping with that philosophy, Mikroscan created the autoloader in response to a need within pathology for a medium-capacity system, which hasn’t previously been available.

“With a 20-slide capacity, the autoloader mirrors the existing workflow of traditional slide folders and allows pathologists to keep together all the slides related to a single case. The random access capability also allows the pathologist to determine the order of slide review,” said Martin Stuart, Ph.D., President and CEO of Mikroscan.

The one-of-a-kind autoloader uses a novel elevator approach that allows the user to insert new slides without having to remove the autoloader, making slide scanning and case review as efficient as possible.

The 20-slide autoloader was designed to aid in pathologists’ evaluation of frozen sections, fine needle aspirates, dermatopathology, safety assessment in drug discovery, clinical research, and education. It also comes with the flexibility to scan or view 20 1 x 3” slides or 10 2 x 3” slides, enabling the review of even more use cases.

While the autoloader option expands the capabilities of the SL5 and L5 systems, it comes at a low price point, which, according to Stuart, “is in keeping with our mission to make the adoption of digital pathology and telemicroscopy affordable and convenient, without compromising on quality.”

Demonstrations of the autoloader feature will take place at USCAP (Mikroscan booth #825), February 29 – March 5 in Los Angeles, CA, where pre-orders can be placed ahead of its official launch and commercial availability in early Q2.
